The modern day Bareknuckle fighter has limited opportunities to showcase their talent and skills as a fighter and since the introduction of boxing gloves and the Marquess of Queensbury rules the sport has been pushed underground and with it the
fighters are relatively unknown outside the close network of fighters and organisers.
Since the 17th century writers have put pen to paper and wrote about these brave warriors and in many respects it is easier to gather information about a fighter who has been dead for over 200 years than of the fighters of today. I want to change all that and be able to interview fighters who compete in bareknuckle boxing today, obviously with the negativity that the sport brings and its close link to Travellers I don’t believe the truth is often told and is twisted by the media. Contrary to what the public believe Bareknuckle Boxing takes place in nearly every city in organised secret locations, recently there seems to be a huge resurgence in the interest of what is technically the oldest martial art and the original form of fighting.
Perhaps since the introduction of Facebook it gives many fans and fighters a platform to not only discuss various aspects of the sport but to arrange the fights themselves. I believe that education is the key factor if the tarnished image of Bareknuckle Boxing is ever to change, the fighters themselves have a certain responsibility to put across who they are and why they choose to compete in a sport often considered Barbaric.
So if anyone is reading this that has competed in bareknuckle  boxing in the 20th and 21st century please get in touch and tell your story and by doing so the broken chain in the sports history can be mended and in future years you yourself might be one of the fighters who readers admire and look up to.
